Rebecca Milford is an emerging British soprano known for her vibrant stage presence and expressive, communicative and beautiful singing. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s Artist Master’s Programme (Distinction), she studied under John Evans and was supported by the Sheila White Scholarship. As a young artist, she has already built a rich and varied career spanning opera, concert work, and outreach – performing across the UK and internationally.
In 2024, Rebecca made her debut as Pamina in The Magic Flute with The Merry Opera Company, earning praise for “combining power with humility” in her portrayal. She followed this with Una Conversa in Suor Angelica at West Green House Opera. Her role debut as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel with Opera Kipling at the Camden Fringe earned five-star reviews and an Offie Award nomination, with London Theatre 1 writing:
“I was startled at first by the sheer power of Rebecca’s vocal force, she hits you like a hurricane. She’s a pocket battleship that’s for sure. Powerful, clear and direct, her singing is tremendously engaging.”
She also made her international debut as Papagena in Wild Arts’ Magic Flute in Potsdam, and also covering Pamina for their 2024 UK tour. On the concert stage, she recently appeared as Soprano Soloist in a Northern Irish tour of Handel’s Messiah with The Merry Opera Company.
Other recent roles include Cinderella in Cinderella ’23 (a new production by John Ramster for The Merry Opera Company), Frasquita (Carmen, Opera Brava), Head Hen and cover Vixen (The Cunning Little Vixen, Hampstead Garden Opera), cover Gianetta and ensemble (The Elixir of Love, Wild Arts Young Artist 2023), and cover Anne Page (Sir John in Love, British Youth Opera at Opera Holland Park).
As a recitalist, Rebecca is developing new programmes in collaboration with pianists Alisdair Hogarth and Alex Norton. She received the Anne Wyburd Prize for German Lied (with Florent Mourier) and has performed in a range of recital settings, including as Youth Music Ambassador for the Cuckfield Music Festival, where she supported emerging young artists and created space for new voices.
Alongside her performing work, Rebecca is deeply committed to outreach and education. She was Creative Education Producer and Music Director for Brolly Productions’ Roma opera The Stopping Place, and served as Education Manager for Wild Arts. She now works as Senior Vocal Leader at Newham Music, leading creative music and theatre projects that connect and inspire young people across the borough.
